The kids enjoyed itOkIt has been over ten and a half years since Spongebob Squarepants made his unforgetable leap to the big screen, and since then the landscape of animated cinema has completely changed, almost entirely dominated by cgi animated features, Like Frozen, How to train your Dragon and so on. I Personally cannot tell how refreshing it is to not only see a 2D animated feature in 2015, but it also made me happy that this style of animation isn't completely dead, i mean the most recent American 2D animated features i personally remember were "The Simpsons movie" (2007), and "Disney's Princess, and the Frog" (2009). When the original film came out i was in eighth grade so yeah its been a while but i have always been a fan of the show since it premiered when i was a young kid anyway back to the film. The way the film opens gave the movie a very unique feel from the original film, which also opened with pirates but those pirates are played from a spongebob fan's perspective Antonio Banderas is our Villain of the film and i loved this character, he was clearly having a ton of fun making the film. The animation is absolutely beautiful some of the most detailed animation i have ever seen in a long time the colors are gorgeous, the writing is witty and silly i love the fact that they got Jonathan Aibel and Glenn berger who wrote episodes of "King of the Hill", and the "Kung Fu Panda" to write the script the CG is gorgeous, the humor is spot it quite possibly the best classic Spongebob experince ever if you're a fan of the series get this movie! This movie wasn't as good as the original movie (mainly because it felt like an hour and a half long episode), but I have to admit that the comedy in this movie was 110% top notch and better than all of the episodes that came after the original movie. When I heard that Stephen Hillenburg returned for the movie, I was excited. However, I can definitely tell that his sense of humor has changed (not in a bad way, though)For example, Seasons 1-3 (Golden Era of SpongeBob) had some adult humor, mixed in with cartoonish humor for the more kid-friendly side. The original movie was also as such.Season 4-9 were just straight bland cartoons. Nothing really funny, just Spongebob and Patrick laughing annoyingly for a 30 minute time slot, with the plot being something either rehashed, or just straight bland or predictable. This movie, however, was WAY different than anything SpongeBob related I've ever seen. The comedy that Stephen Hillenburg brought back to the table was very different than we've seen in Seasons 1-3. The jokes in this movie made me think I was watching a movie like Airplane or Top Gun, the jokes just being unpredictable in the stupidest way, which was extremely funny. For example, there's a part where Plankton tells SpongeBob "Wait! Hold your thoughts!" and SpongeBob is then seen, literally holding a thought bubble, just stupid unpredictable comedy like that. I appreciate that, and love that it is refreshing. There were also some suggestive themes in the movie, so the adult appeal is definitely back!On the kid side, it was also EXTREMELY different than I've ever seen in SpongeBob. At first, I didn't like how over the top and WEIRD this film was on the kid friendlier side, but I stopped and realized that kids from 1999 and kids from 2015 are ENTIRELY different and have different appeals. After realizing this, all of the randomness and overall WEIRDNESS in this movie made sense. Instead of following the same boring and bland formula from seasons 4-9, someone in the writing staff must have finally said "Listen, we need to catch the appeal of kids today. If we're going to make kids interested in our show, we need to pull them in." and I have to say that it definitely did. I know what the kids are into these days (not trying to sound old), and SpongeBob definitely pulled it off in this new movie. With an entirely different, hilarious, and refreshing comedy stance than seasons 1-3, and a huge attempt at actually appealing to kids of 2015 rather than following a bland formula, I have to say that Season 10 is going to be one of the best seasons since the show started. It will reel in kids again, as well as appealing to adults with classic humor and unpredictable comedy. I feel as if the entire show is going to be COMPLETELY different, and it will definitely be noticeable! In a nutshell: Loved the movie, comedy was refreshing and hilarious, the kid friendlier side I thought was stupid, but you have to realize that kids in 2015 are different than kids from 1999.I let my 8th grade students choose a movie to celebrate their state exam results and they chose this movie. It was my first time seeing it and it was so funny and cute. Antonio Bandera was a great pirate, the seagulls are cute and funny, and of course SpongeBob and crew are a ton of fun.I watched it 8 times it was my favorite SpongeBob movie out of all three SpongeBob moviesRecommend you to watch if you haven’t alreadyOne of the best animated movies of 2015. As I am a huge SpongeBob fan and still am.I love this cartoon since I was 10 years old, that's when I started watching it. I enjoy seeing the adventures of SpongeBob and the gang. I was very optimistic about this sequel. A good wacky awesome story, of the mixture of the Mad Max of Bikini Bottom going into an apocalypse state. Our friends go up into our world, and they become the new awesome Avengers like superheroes to stop the bad guy Burger-Beard played by Antonio Banderas. I really liked the message of teamwork and friendship in this film. SpongeBob has to work with his arch nemesis Plankton to get the secret formula back. Despite the little tiny cute diabolical foe is reluctant at first, but he has no choice in order to clear their names. We see a lot of character development in him, and he finally gets the spotlight alongside SpongeBob. He even believes he is the only one who should steal the formula. SpongeBob is determined to get it back, and he has to deal with everybody that he knows has turned against him. Well since he is the only one who knew that Plankton didn't steal the formula. They are the only 2 who witnessed the formula disappearing into thin air, since BurgerBeard changed the story. All of the characters have more roles like Squidward or Sandy but they don't contribute until the last 20 minutes of the movie. Patrick is still his lovable goofy old self, but he does has his few moments to shine. Even though Plankton takes his role in the sequel as the secondary antagonist turned deuteragonist. We all enjoyed seeing the foe teaming up with the hero. Heck, they make a great team!!!! The humor is clever, and the story is good paced as well. Loved the seagulls. The epic rap battle at the end was so awesome between the awesome badass Bubbles and the Spunky Seagulls. I give this film 5 stars totally!!!!A new film based on the cartoon series Spongebob Squarepants. A show which has always appealed to all ages by being daft and silly enough to keep the kids captivated, and clever and self knowing enough to make the grown ups smile. The show's creator, Stephen Hillenburg, co-wrote the story for this. Which sees Spongebob out to save the world when the secret formula for the Krabby Patty mysteriously vanishes. Forcing him to work with the one person you would least expect.Meantime, above the surface, dastardly pirate BurgerBeard [Antonio Banderas] gets his hands on a very special item. Which could make him the richest pirate in the world. He just wishes the pesky talking seagulls would stop bugging him.Elsewhere in time and space, a worker really needs a break.Worlds are about to collide...The plot of this is very clever. A little convoluted. But it does make sense. Although it might be a bit too clever it's own good for the liking of some. But if you can just go with it, then this film is great fun. For the aforementioned reasons for all ages.As you will have seen from the trailer, some of it forsakes two dimensional animation to go into live action. But that's only the last quarter or so of the film. And the results - mixing cgi renditions of the characters with live action, are simply superb.Antonio Banderas attacks his role with great comic gusto. Matt Berry also makes a memorable voice acting appearance, with a character who parodies a rather obsure Marvel comics character called the Watcher [google it].Great fun for Spongebob fans of all ages.Keep watching to the very end of the closing credits to see a resolution to a bit of animation that starts at the very beginning of them. The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Irish.Subtitles: English, Irish. [Or Gaelic, as you will].Extras:Four short featurettes, running for five to nine minutes.Spongebob Squarepants: out of his world. An overview of the film. When I grow up, I want to make funny sounds: Short interviews with all the voice actors.Becoming BurgerBeard: Antonio Banderas plus various crew members on his role.Making the Burger mobile chase sequence: how the live action part of the film was done. All of these are brief, but are really good viewing. Informative and entertaining with it.I got this for my kids as they watched it on Sky and loved it.I really like Antonio Banderas as the pirate and the storyline is actually good and its very watchable.I would highly recommend it for any spongebob fans, its a really good film, far better than the first one.Great film, not as good as the first but still very funny & is much better than I thought it would be. What put me off at first was seeing Spongebob made into 3d, but the majority of the film (first 3/4 of the film) is actually in the original 2d format, so don't be put off, if you are a fan of Spongebob or funny movies then you will love this.Great for the kids , l know some adults who will like this.Really good in 3d my son really enjoyed it kept him quiet all the way through
